Bastille

Bastille

Revisited the collection of shorts ‘Paris Je T’aime’ once more over the past two nights and as with my first viewing, was once again enamored by Isabel Coixet’s film ‘Bastille’.

Bastille tells of a man (Sergio Castellitto) about to leave his wife (Miranda Richardson) for a young mistress. Before telling her off, she suddenly bursts into tears and reveals to her husband details of her terminal illness. As a result, the husband then rediscovers his love for his wife, something he thought has long disappeared.

What struck me most about the film was the amount of emotion captured in the brief five minutes the film was on screen. Particularly, I like how it reminds people that while certain things in a relationship can morph into mundanity, they instantaneously become special once you are jolted with the fact that it could all soon go away.

  2. Cuaron’s was dissapointing indeed. I didn’t get it at first, and once I did, tapos na and had to move on to the next film na. Nawala na yung moment, kumbaga. hehehe.

Still, Paris Je T’aime had more hits than misses, and I highly recommend it. Gusto ko tuloy pumuntang Paris. hahaha.

Btw, balita na they’re coming up with an NYC version of this.

p.s. when is your blog going back up?
