Dissapointed with CYHSY

Right this very moment, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s self-titled debut album is playing over my stereo. And while I am still left gasping over it’s genius with every listen, I can’t help but be puzzled with what happened to their brilliance when they released their second effort early this year.

I had real high expectations for Some Loud Thunder, and so it came as a surprise when what came my way was a complete and utter mess. Under-produced and seemingly incomplete, their attempt to brave the experimental path, to me, was a mockery of the indie music genre.

CYHSY being my favorite band from 2005, I gave this album more chances than I normally would. Yet, it saddens me that with every listen, nothing seems to leap out and take me like I wanted it to.

Bordering on unlistenable, Some Loud Thunder is easily the most dissapointing album of the year.

  1. Agree with you on their second album (the first album literally blew me away the very first time I heard it). But there are one or two tracks I like (i.e. Sleeping Lessons). And I’d still catch these guys if they were touring on concert.

  2. I agree with the ‘catch these guys if they were in concert’ part. I heard a live version of satan said dance even before they released their album and I remember liking it. But the album track was just all over the place.
