Shutter

About two years ago, an Indonesian friend lent me his dvd of the Thai horror blockbuster Shutter and promised that it was way better than Ringu. At that time, while I thought it was actually comparable, I honestly couldn’t say that Shutter was the better picture.

Today, after having recently discovered that Youtube is in fact actually a treasure chest of Asian cinema, I rewatched it again. This time around, I found the viewing to be a more pleasurable experience (that is, if you call being scared shitless pleasurable).

The story was told in a fluid and straightforward manner, and even though I knew what to expect, it still greeted me with the customary knee jerk moments. With regard to the technical aspects of the film, what I found great was that the shots were well framed and composed, and the cinematography was flawless. Great work by two directors who I found out, are in their early 20s.

Anyway, you can watch Shutter here.

  1. Have you seen Michael Powell’s cult classic “Peeping Tom”?
Made in 1960 about a rather lethal version of a shutterbug…
well, I won’t spoil the fun. Hard to find film and certainly an odd selection from the director’s oeuvre…
