Everytime you close your eyes

“People say that your dreams,
Are the only things that save ya.
Come on baby in our dreams,
We can live our misbehavior.”

- Rebellion (Lies) by Arcade Fire

In anticipation of the rumored Broken Social Scene and Feist concert at Singapore’s Mosaic Music Festival next March, I feasted on several BSS live performances on Youtube. I thought I’d virtually immerse myself in the experience of seeing them live first, in preparation for what may be my defining event for 2008.

So I did view a couple of live performances of theirs; that Letterman performance surely was great. What I particularly love about BSS is how tight they sound, their band member count notwithstanding.

And since I was already in on the subject of viewing live performances by Canadian bands, I took a moment and engaged myself in some Arcade Fire. Damn, these guys just know how to put on a great show. I’d probably put Arcade Fire at number two on my list of concert must sees, ahead of U2 and Radiohead, and just behind Paul McCartney.

It was already getting late, and I needed to get some shut eye. But little did I know that even in my sleep, my dreams would transport me to an Arcade Fire concert.

The details are hazy as most dreams go, but I do remember that two high school buddies were there with me, catching the band in Singapore. I also recall the band getting off the stage and playing in the middle of the audience. Couldn’t remember whether they did that as an intro or encore, or what song they did, but most likely it was Wake Up, as is their trademark.

I could call to mind experiencing their unorthodox performances, such as the one they did on Conan. It was an entertaining dream, really, and I woke up with a renewed hope in catching these guys live.

So please, Arcade Fire, do drop by Manila. And if rebel senators and soldiers in tanks scare the bejesus out of you, I wouldn’t mind traveling to HK or Singapore, just to see you guys.
